Enjoying a Hip Mexican Restaurant

The other evening we had the pleasure to meet up with some friends and found ourselves enjoying a hip Mexican restaurant.

We decided to get some dinner at Chili Verde. This hip Mexican restaurant is family owned with an upscale vibe. They have the basics. Starting off with delicious warm crunchy tortilla chips, accompanied with a wonderful smoky salsa with some nice heat and a creamy, flavorful bean dip.

The Art

As you gaze around the restaurant you will be treated with interesting, unique artwork on the walls. According to Chili Verde’s website, these pieces of art are based on
ancestral embroiders of Mexico. Of course all of this artwork is very interesting and colorful, making you feel like you are dining in a fashionable restaurant in Mexico.

And the pieces are all for purchase.

The Food

They have what you would expect from a top notch Mexican restaurant.

You could have a traditional starter of guacamole prepared at your table
to your specifications. Or try some ceviche , nacho’s or tamales.

But then you can have less traditional and be more adventurous by trying calamari or crab tostadas made with crab stew.

Nightly Specials huevos rancheros and stuffed poblanos

The Nightly Specials.

My wife Jodie chose one of the nightly specials, the huevos rancheros . And I chose the the other special, the stuff poblanos.

The huevos rancheros had this wonderful smokey slightly spicy sauce with a hint of sweetness. This sauce could become addictive. It was a good thing we had leftovers as I was craving that unique flavor the next day.

The stuffed poblanos were actually like a dessert with a sweet smoky sauce. Stuffed and topped with walnuts, pomegranate and a cream sauce. The sweetness is almost overwhelming. But then the roasted poblano pepper taste mixes in with the other ingredients to reminded you that you are eating an elegant, rich, unique Mexican dish.

Did You Say Margaritas

Ok, if you decide to visit Chili Verde and I recommend you do, make sure not to miss the coconut margarita. And I do not even like margaritas. Really, every since my freshman year in college I can not stand tequila. But that is another story LOL.

But this coconut margarita with a coconut, sugar coating on the rim of the glass is just so refreshing and exotic. Of course you need to enjoy coconut. But a word to the wise – ONLY HAVE ONE. No joke– these drinks carry a one two punch, if you dare to order another. And believe me it take lots of willpower not to order that second coconut marg as they are called. As they are so yummy!
